He lives in another country. I'm sure he /would/ be nice to come home to, but right now it's just the worst of both worlds. No companionship, no freedom.

The cute Asian is only interested in Mountees ? I guess that would make her a Mounter. Maybe you should pursue her afterall. Being Mountee is not such a bad thing. Oh wait .. .I reread ... you said Mountie, not Mountee ... nevermind ...

MonoCerdo: even old New York was once New Amsterdam. Why'd they change it?

Pinky: I can neither confirm nor deny. I can't talk about it, really! And it's killing me! Maybe in a couple of years I'll be able to confess, but not just yet.

are you in love with a girl who is actually gay? that sounds like the road to heartbreak.

i'd like to be skinny and rich myself (at the moment, I am neither) but I have to say that the firm relationship foundation I have is a comfort. I'd actually like all three things.

Wow, Nicholas, that's a pretty grim outlook on life partnership!

I'm no advocate for "THE ONE" school of thought, as in there is only one person in the universe for you and if your stars happen to cross you will fall in madly love and if not, well, off to the monastery with you! I'm not terribly good at probability, but if that were the case, it seems to me we'd have a lot of people who would never find THE ONE because THE ONE happened to have been born in Istanbul back when it was Constantinople.

I've always thought that there are certain compatible personality types, and among those types there are subsets of people who can, um, deal with one another's problems well enough to enjoy a lasting relationship. Hopefully you also like each other quite a bit, and, very importantly, like the way you feel about yourself in the relationship.

Long-term relationships are impossibly complex, and of course what works for one person might have another dialing 1-800-DIVORCE, but I think that even if finding your current ideal of a perfect mate is unrealistic, that doesn't mean that you won't, someday, be wholly convinced that the person you're with is the perfect person for you because you've grown to be perfect for one another together.

And this concludes MonoCerdo's very long and unsolicited spiel on relationships. Tune in next week, when I channel Dr. Phil on parenting techniques. I don't have kids, but I'll tell you how to raise yours!

There is not a perfect mate for you or anyone else. You just need to find the person with problems that you can deal with or handle.
