Tapas: Tasca Brava
Wednesday, 2004 March 10 - 10:46 pm
Whenever I say there's a tapas place in Cary, people ask, "there's a topless place in Cary?" After many months of telling everyone I was going to try it out, I finally made it there a couple of weeks ago.

There were no topless people there at all. Actually, there were hardly any people there, period. That was a bad sign right away.

But I really wanted to give this place a shot. It's not far from where I live, and I wanted to support local business. It's in a location where many restaurants have failed before, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

The menu was interesting, full of out-of-the-ordinary tapas selections, along with a decent selection of full-sized entrees. Lynsey and I opted to share a handful of tapas, including empanadas, a mushroom dish, and chorizo.

The meal was disappointing. The dishes were really small, much smaller than I would have expected for six bucks apiece. Aside from the empanadas, which were delicious, the other dishes were odd-tasting. (The mushrooms tasted like they'd been boiled in soy sauce.)

The service was cordial but slow. After a long evening, we ended up leaving still hungry, minus thirty dollars.

I bear this place no ill will, but it's doubtful I'll eat there again.
