Album: Alanis Morissette - So Called Chaos | Sunday, 2004 July 11 - 12:18 pm |
Alanis' latest effort gives us more of the same; that's both good and bad. "So Called Chaos" continues the direction established by "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie". We see a mature and polished Alanis giving us wordy and heady lyrics combined with somewhat incongruous pop melodies. It's all pretty good stuff, the kind of stuff we now like and expect from Alanis, but it's nothing new. I guess we know she'll never really grab us the way she did with "Jagged Little Pill". Still, based on her last album, I was hoping for something a little more powerful here. I can tolerate the radio-friendly "Eight Easy Steps" and "Out Is Through", but the two gems on this short (ten-song) album are "Excuses" and "Everything". Rating: 4/5 |
