Television: Dead Like Me
Tuesday, 2004 July 27 - 11:58 pm
What the hell happened to this show?

Showtime's dark comedy series "Dead Like Me" has finally come back from its long hiatus. The first season of this show was some of the best television I've seen in some time, full of poignant moments as well as brilliant and clever humor.

So, I sat down to watch the first new episode with great anticipation. Unfortunately, just about everything about the show was a disaster. The plot was a muddled mess; the actors were utterly unsympathetic and unconvincing; the dialogue was bland and predictable. This is the best they could come up with after all this time?

They managed to keep the "dark" part, as everyone in the show was portrayed as bitter, depressed, and angry. But somewhere they lost the "comedy" aspect, as well as all sense of genuine emotion.

I'm hoping this was a one-time thing, and that the season will improve as everyone gets back into rhythm.
