Today's Miscellany
Wednesday, 2005 April 6 - 11:27 pm
Mostly ranting, but a couple of good things too.

My banned word for the day is "webinar". I cannot stand this word. It soooo smacks of a word invented by a self-taught smarmy Internet consultant who still thinks that digital music is a pretty neat idea. Next time someone uses this word, I'm going to say "Oh, do you mean an on-line seminar"? Except I'm going to pronounce seminar "SEMEN-arr" just to make the person uncomfortable.

Scott Savol survives another week on American Idol. Why, people, why? But Nikko Smith wasn't going to last that much longer, anyway. And we know that Scott's in trouble now: he was next-to-last this week.

The creepiest new Internet phenomenon: stealing someone's pregnancy or baby pictures from a web site, and passing them off as your own. I've seen this happen to three different people in the last month. WTF is wrong with people?

The best blog entry I've read in a while: Niki's story of her early days of Catholicism. The part at the end where she's trying to figure out what was said during communion... oh, that had me rolling.

Woman with the best chance of supplanting Rudi Bakhtiar as my favorite CNN anchor: Christina Park. Ohhhh.

Do you have links about the stolen pregnancy thing? You people who are not pregnant are saying they are and using pictures? Or people are pregnant and just misrepresent some photos.

I can't decide which I dislike more - webinar (heinous, I agree) or blogosphere. The tendency to append "sphere" to just about everything really ticks me off.

Nicholas: I'm hesitant to post any links to sites from which photos have been stolen, because those folks have been getting too much unwanted publicity already. Mostly, there are people who aren't really pregnant, but are trying to convince someone else that they are. It doesn't make sense, I know.

Pinky: I'm not a huge fan of "blogosphere" either, but I don't know of a better word to describe "community of people who write on-line journals". Suggestions?

I like...."community of people who write on-line journals," myself :-)

Note taken. That is why I am hesitant to put pictures on the web. Several friends with baby blogs and on-line photo albums have them password protected. I always wondered why...............
