Apple Watch: Still Waiting | Wednesday, 2005 July 20 - 11:59 pm |
Geez, wouldja give us those new iBooks already? The Apple rumor mill has been unusually quiet lately, but yesterday, Think Secret said that a new iBook is imminent. IMMINENT! I've been reloading the Apple web page about every ten minutes, watching for that new iBook to appear. Nothing so far. It's gotten to the point where I'd buy a new iBook model almost immediately, because I kinda want a new laptop to carry with me to BlogHer. I mean, do the cool bloggers fart around with five-year-old laptops? Sure, I use the same laptop that Carrie used in "Sex and the City", so maybe it has some caché with the ladies. But it's still old. One thing I did do for my aging Pismo: I bought a new hard drive. The old one was making an embarrassingly loud whine, one that would surely have seemed especially loud in the quiet confines of a conference room. But now you can almost bank on the fact that a new iBook is coming... I jinxed myself by spending money on the old computer. It's fate, I tell ya. In other news, Apple's U.S. market share is reportedly up to 4.5%, according to IDC. That seems small, but it's a big jump from a year ago. Apple's sales growth over the last year was 33%, compared to the industry average of 12%. Apple is now the fourth-leading computer manufacturer in the U.S. All indications are that the iPod "halo effect" is for real; the iPod is bringing Apple style to the masses, and the masses like it. Hooray! |

A five-year-old laptop! Ha! You should see the laptop we have over at MonoCerdo headquarters. It was purchased when Andersen Consulting decided to clear out of their old computers, and I'm pretty sure it was the laptop given to the lowest level temp, who then gave it to his dog. It's routinely mistaken for a VCR. |
