Today's Frozen Meal: Stouffer's Meatball Italiano Toasted Sub | Friday, 2010 February 12 - 12:10 pm |
"Italian seasoned meatballs with grilled red and green peppers, onions, mozzarella cheese and a zesty marinara sauce on Italian bread." Note to Stouffer's: calling it "Italiano" doesn't actually make it Italian. I'd have been more impressed if they'd called it "polpetta Italiano", though I suppose then fewer people would buy it. For these use-the-box-as-a-cooking-platform things, I suppose I ought to photograph the box before I destroy it in the microwave. Taste: It tastes almost exactly like the Lean Cuisine microwave pizzas, except that the bread is much thicker and chewier. (It's definitely not a "bakery fresh" taste; it's exactly what you'd expect from bread that's been frozen and then microwaved.) The meatballs are tiny little globs of sausage, like you'd find on a sausage pizza, and the peppers are almost flavorless. The marinara sauce is tasty, but it contributes to the "am I eating a folded up pizza?" feeling. Oh: and, at 194 grams, it's pretty unsatisfying. Score: 2.5/5.0 Nutrition: Yikes: 18 grams of fat, 6 grams of saturated fat. 42% of the calories come from fat. Lots of vitamin C and a fair amount of fiber, but this isn't what you'd call a healthy meal. Score: 1.5/3.0 Packaging: It uses the crisping platform like the pizzas, and also has the somewhat cumbersome interior shrink-wrap. Score: 1.5/2.0 Total Score: 5.5/10.0 |
