College Football 2013: Week 4 Preview
Wednesday, 2013 September 18 - 10:32 pm
Michigan plays at UConn Saturday night; N.C. State plays at home against Clemson Thursday night on national TV.

#15 Michigan at UConn.
This is a bad UConn team. UConn lost to FCS school Towson and then to Maryland. Then again, Akron is a bad team and Michigan imploded against them, at home. So who knows what will happen on the road in a night game?

That being said, I think this will be a bounce-back week for Michigan, and I think we'll see improvement across the board. I'll look particularly for better decision making from Gardner, and some better play from Jack Miller at center. I also think we'll see a little more of the backup tailbacks.

I'm not terribly confident yet in the defensive line's ability to get a pass rush and keep containment, but with Courtney Avery coming back from injury, perhaps the secondary will hold up a bit better.

I think Michigan gets out to an early lead and cruises to a comfortable, if not dominating, victory.

Prediction: Michigan 42, UConn 23.

N.C. State vs. Clemson
Hoo boy. Clemson is playing about as well as anyone in the country right now, and State is coming off a narrow win to the Richmond Spiders. This bodes not well.

Defensively I think N.C. State will play a soft defense to try to prevent big plays... and Clemson will end up with a lot of 8-yard rushing plays as a result. State's defense might be awfully tired by the time this game ends.

The only hope is on the other side of the ball. Georgia racked up 545 yards on Clemson's defense; while N.C. State doesn't have the athletes that Georgia has, the talent disparity is not that huge and I think it's possible for State to move the ball. It'll take mistake-free execution, and Pete Thomas might have to eat some sacks to avoid throwing bad interceptions, but if State manages to get a ground game going, they might keep the game in reach.

In the end, though, I think Clemson is just too good.

Prediction: Clemson 45, N.C. State 17.

Games to Watch on TV
The N.C. State-Clemson game is on Thursday at 7:30 PM on ESPN.

Saturday at noon you can watch UNC play Georgia Tech on ESPN.

At 3:30 PM there's Tennessee at #19 Florida on CBS, or Michigan State at #22 Notre Dame on NBC. Big Ten conference play commences as Purdue plays at #24 Wisconsin on ABC or ESPN2.

At 7:00 PM there's the Game of the Week: #23 Arizona State plays #5 Stanford on Fox.

At 8:00 PM the Michigan-UConn game is on ABC.
