College Football 2016: Week 6 Recap | Saturday, 2016 October 15 - 11:16 am |
Michigan wins a laugher over Rutgers; NCSU beats Notre Dame in a hurricane. Michigan 78, Rutgers 0 Not much to say about this one. Rutgers is bad at football, you guys. Only a couple of takeaways here: one, Michigan's win was better than Ohio State's win. Michigan is definitely in the same league as OSU, and everyone is now anticipating an epic showdown of unbeatens when the teams meet in November. NCSU 10, Notre Dame 3 This was a silly game. Hurricane Matthew drenched the teams and the only touchdown came on a blocked punt. That turned out to be the difference in the game. It helped that Brian Kelly made the dumb decision to try to throw 26 times in a monsoon. Notre Dame might be looking at a losing season... and maybe a new coach next year. I hear Les Miles is available. No real takeaways for NCSU, really, except that they should reconsider playing games during hurricanes in the future. Notable Games The upset of the day was Navy beating #6 Houston 46-40. This probably ruins Houston's playoff hopes. #8 Texas A&M beat #9 Tennessee 45-38 in double overtime. I grudgingly acknowledge that Tennessee might have some talent. We'll see how they hold up against their next opponent, Alabama. #5 Washington crushed Oregon 70-21. Oregon is a shadow of their former selves, and DC Brady Hoke isn't looking too good there. Washington State beat #15 Stanford 42-16. What on earth has happened to Stanford? #23 Florida State beat #10 Miami 20-19. #25 Virginia Tech stomped #17 UNC 34-3. #20 Oklahoma beat Texas 45-40. USC beat #21 Colorado 21-17. I was hoping Colorado would win here, helping to boost Michigan's resume. Penn State brought Maryland back down to earth, winning 38-14. Hapless Michigan State lost to BYU 31-14. It's now more likely than not that MSU will have a losing season and miss out on a bowl. |
