I'm Up To "Not Quite As Horrible As Some People Think"
Friday, 2005 June 17 - 11:53 pm
I feel like Sally Field!

Well, I feel a little better now, after all your nice comments. Thank you. Someone go tell Karen Mann that YOU LIKE ME! YOU REALLY LIKE ME!

Now, did everyone notice that long-time-lurker/first-time-commenter Jenny appears to be asking me out on a blind date? And I mean, totally blind, since I know nothing whatsoever about her? Jenny, I gotta tell you, I'll need to know at least a few things about you before I'll even think about doing that. I mean, it's just not fair: after all, you know just about everything there is to know about me. But perhaps we can consider going on a "non-date". Anyway, e-mail me (rkohelp at nc dot rr dot com) and we can talk about it.

I went running today, but I forgot my watch so I couldn't time myself. So I just decided to take an easy pace and see how far I could go. I ended up running FOUR MILES before my lungs exploded. I might have made it in under 36:00; if so, that would mean that I've already accomplished one of my goals for the summer. Hooray!

Tonight I stayed home. That's getting to be a pattern for me: go out drinking every weekday, and then stay home on Friday. I think that comes from being a single person whose friends are all coupled up. Everyone else goes out with their significant others on weekends; they only have time to see The Single Guy on weeknights.

Oh, I forgot to talk about Thursday's social activities, because I was so caught up the Karen Mann thing. Let's see: I had lunch with Four Two Hot Women (two of them cancelled). One of these women is actually single and really charming. We get along pretty well, but I think we're polar opposites in a lot of ways. She doesn't like any condiment that comes in liquid form, and that pretty much rules out 95% of the condiment world. Also, she doesn't drink beer. That doesn't exactly fit well with my lifestyle.

In the evening I had drinks with Queen B at Café Ciao in Cary. Ciao is a great little wine bar, and generally I'm the only male patron there. No doubt, everyone just assumes that I'm gay. Anyway, we talked about a range of topics, including books, and that's one of the things I love about Queen B: she's one of the few literary people that I know. We also talked about Professor Andrew, the guy we know who was on "The Real Gilligan's Island" until last Wednesday. Andrew, by the way, had a lengthy, rambling letter printed in today's News and Observer, and that will be of interest to exactly one of my readers.

Tomorrow I will be trying to cook an interesting dish to bring to a party, where there are sure to be a mix of vegans, vegetarians, and non-meat-eaters. That rules out all of my usual potluck dishes, including gyoza (pork dumplings), bacon-wrapped mussels, beef carpaccio, tuna and salmon ceviche... hmm, this might be tough. I'll be reading through a bunch of cookbooks tonight, I think.

Jenny -- is this Jenny P? If so, hi!

Ken -- if that's Jenny P calling, you better ask her out quick before a bunch of other deserving guys fill out her queue. She's quality. And lovely.

Oh, and I just started linking to you and Crouching Hampster about two weeks ago when I realized that both of you were posting with (what I think was) renewed frequency. Hooray!

Hi Phil! (Waves)
Yes, it's me. So, if Ken never emails me back, etc, do you wanna find a willing victim, erm, guy to do that movie?
