Saturday Snoozing
Saturday, 2005 July 2 - 11:59 pm
A quiet start to the weekend, just the way I like it.

I love the first day of a three-day weekend, because I feel like I'm not required to do anything. I can just bum around, and there's still two whole days left if I actually want to accomplish something.

That being said, as I sat and watched "Troy" on cable (or was it "Lord of the Rings"? I kept getting confused), and I felt myself sinking deeper and deeper into my couch, I did start to feel a little guilty that I wasn't getting any exercise. With all that gratuitous muscle-rippling happening on screen, I had to get up and do a few push-ups to quiet the demons.

By the way, Diane Kruger, who plays Helen of Troy in the movie, reminds me of my exceedingly beautiful friend Natasha. Next time I see Natasha, I might have to tell her that she has a face that could launch a thousand ships. I might be having dinner with her on Tuesday, but it won't be a date. (Ahem.) No, really.

Another activity for today: reading the manual for my digital camera. WHEE, DOES THE EXCITEMENT EVER END? Actually, this was a useful exercise. I have a nice camera with a gazillion features (a Canon PowerShot G2, which was an $800 camera a few years ago) , and like a dope I've just been leaving it on "AUTO" and taking a bunch of mediocre pictures as a result. My rationale has always been that I can fix any picture in PhotoShop, but that's turned out not to be true. I've noticed that if I take a picture in very low light with the AUTO setting, there is absolutely no way to recreate the lost blue and green colors from a scene. So from now on, I'll be setting the exposure manually, thank you very much.

I spent some more time working on the next version of The Real Kato Online. One of the features will be support for registered users, so you can log in and have the site remember all your preferences. Now, I know, people are generally hesitant about registering on web sites... and that's actually okay, because I'd rather have a small set of loyal and close registered users than a mammoth and anonymous set. The benefit of registering? I don't want to reveal that just yet... but I'm hoping people will find it worthwhile.

On tap for tomorrow: possibly a pool party, possibly some golf, possibly some running (gasp! my leg is feeling better), and possibly a cookout. I haven't really nailed down any plans yet. On Monday I'll probably be at Regency Park in Cary for the fireworks. Happy Fourth of July, everyone! (Of course, I'll probably be back to blog again tomorrow. So saying "Happy Fourth of July" now is kind of like when you say "good-bye" to someone, and then you end up both walking in the same direction, with an awkward silence.)

So, um, see ya.

Hey, well, if you see me there, you can keep me company. I'm trying to get some friends to go but I don't know if they're gonna.

I'd go, but I think it's going to be too hot. (Remember LAST year? When I didn't go?)

You'll hate this, but it got a little chilly last night and I had to put on a sweater. I was in heaven.
