A Grumpy Day
Tuesday, 2005 April 19 - 11:49 pm
Today I was Grumpy McGrumperson.

Today wasn't entirely bad. I mean, for a while I was a little bit happy because lots of people seem to be visiting my site by way of Vindauga. Geez, Lisa, how did you become so popular all of a sudden?

But mostly, I was in a pretty lousy mood today. I think part of it was that I had to eat lunch by myself. Again.

I need to go out to lunch every day. I mean, after working for ninety minutes IN A ROW, I just have to get out of the office. But lately it's been a struggle to find people who want to go with me.

Partly, it's because my tastes in restaurants are, shall we say, different than everyone else's. I mean, I don't like the crappy cheapo Chinese buffets that are nearby. I don't mind Quizno's but I can't eat there EVERY DAY. Same goes for the pour-grease-into-your-arteries pizza place, or the equally heart-attack-inducing hot dog place.

I like going to nice places. I like places with real silverware and pretty waitresses. I like dishes with garnish. I like places where people smile at you and thank you for dining at their establishment. Eating lunch out is sometimes my only opportunity during the day to interact with NORMAL people, people who don't sit in cubicles all day. I think I have the right to enjoy it.

But today I went to Burger King. Urrrp.

I got the Tender Crisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch sandwich, also known as the "Darius Rucker I-Can't-Believe-I've-Sunk-So-Low" special.

When I ordered the TCBCR combo, I had my seven dollars ready for the cashier. She said, "Oh, wow, you already knew how much it was going to be!" Um, yeah, lady, I kind of got a clue from the PRICE POSTED ON THE MENU. It's not exactly rocket science here. That kind of made me wonder, what kind of morons usually eat at Burger King? And then I was ashamed, ashamed that I was eating at the Tender Crisp Moron Ranch.

I guess that's why I was grumpy.

Are you sure you weren't grumpy because that tender chicken bacon cheddar ranch song wormed it's way into your subconscious and it's slowly driving you insane? Or is that just me?

Yeah, that's part of it too. And when I was searching for the picture above, I found the entire commercial posted over at VirtualFools.com... and like an idiot, I WATCHED it.

Oh my God. I just watched it. Is that a real commercial? Is it supposed to be bad? Am I just not getting it?

Oh, it's real. It's horribly, horribly real.
