Mahjongging | Tuesday, 2005 August 16 - 2:24 am |
Oh, Internets. It's so very late, past 2:00 a.m., and here I'm just starting tonight's blogging. I'll have to be brief. I played mahjongg with three friends tonight, all of them moms. They tend to call me when they can't find a fourth mom to join them. I'm the one they call because I actually taught them how to play. And I guess I just kind of fit in with the mommy crowd. We play the way my dad taught me, which is supposedly using the official Japanese rules. (I'm sure, though, that there are some rules thrown in there that my dad just made up.) This game is somewhat different than the Chinese version, or whatever it is that old Jewish women play. I have the rules written up somewhere... I'll try to post them when I get the chance. I find it cool that there's this little corner of North Carolina society that plays Japanese-rules mahjongg, and that I'm the reason for it. Like most games, mahjongg is an excuse to chat and socialize with friends. I mean, I enjoy the game, but mostly I play for the company. Tonight I got to catch up with some women friends whom I don't really see enough any more, and that was fun. Many scandalous things were said tonight, but I was absolutely PROHIBITED from blogging about them. It's funny to watch someone say something embarrassing, and then immediately wince as if they've confessed to using heroin on live television, because they think I might blog about it. Ah, the power. |

Thanks Ken for keeping our secrets! :) Btw, I will email you your Mahjongg rules you sent me way back when we started playing! :)Thanks also for teaching us to play :) It has been a lot of fun playing and helps keep my sanity! The reason we like hanging with you is because you _don't_ fit in with our mommy crowd - You are a friend BK (before kids), and know a part of us different than the people we see during the day! We like to live vicariously through you all the things that we don't get to really do anymore! :) You are so much fun (even if you sometimes don't think so yourself!!! :) We hope we don't bore you too much with our mommy lives! :) |
