Home Improvement II
Sunday, 2005 August 21 - 11:50 pm
Like I said... it never ends.

So here's today's progress.

First I replaced the light fixture in the kitchen. I mean, the "breakfast nook". I think it's ridiculous to call it a "breakfast nook" because (a) I almost never eat breakfast, and (b) there's never any nookie happening in there.

The old light fixture looked like something from the Brady Bunch. Sometimes I'm flabbergasted at the design choices of the original owner of this house. I'm also flabbergasted at the fact that I've let things stay like this for so long. Where has my head been? (Don't answer that.)

Anyway, I'm thinking of keeping the old fixture so I can use it as a hat for a witch costume:

The new fixture looks like this:

Hanging a ceiling light fixture is an exercise even more painful than hanging a wall fixture. You have to attach wires and screws while holding the thing in place over your head. And in this case, the electrical junction box wasn't set correctly; it was too deep within the ceiling hole. So I had to spend about twenty minutes fiddling with it in order to get everything to fit properly, and I was HURTING by the end of that.

After resting a while and watching some golf (yay Tiger!), I removed the old sink hardware from the two upstairs bathrooms. I installed a new fixture in just one of the bathrooms. The other one can wait. I mean, how many bathrooms does a single guy really need?

Here's the new fixture. It's made by "Pegasus".

In both the lavatory sinks I've done so far, I've noticed that my existing p-trap is in the wrong place relative to the drain. So I've had to cut the drain pipe with a hacksaw to make it fit. For the first sink, that wasn't such a big deal, because the pipe was made out of PVC plastic. But this one was made out of brass, and it took me half an hour to saw through it. Combined with the effort of working on an overhead light fixture, and the effort of using an eight-pound pipe wrench underneath a sink, this has made my neck and shoulders really tired. I think I might have to take a bubble bath before going to bed tonight.

Did you actually refer to one of the rooms in your house as a "lavatory". Sweet jesus man, you live alone, call it the crapper.

If I called it "the crapper sink", people might get the wrong idea about what goes on in this house.
