It's All Part of My Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy
Sunday, 2005 August 28 - 9:11 pm
Who knew fantasy football could be so much fun?

So today was the fantasy football league draft, and I gotta tell you, it was a grand old time. Amy was sitting here as I was going through it, giving me helpful advice like "you should draft players according to their 'fro size". Oh, we were halfway through a bottle of Grey Goose at the time, also.

The highlight was when we decided we'd go ahead and pick a team defense in Round 6, against all logic or expectations. Not only that, we didn't even pick the top-rated defense: we picked the Carolina Panthers, out of sentimentality. And when I made the pick, I announced "BOO-YAH!" to the rest of the group, as if I'd made a brilliant and stunning move. Amy and I were just cracking up about that one.

I paid some attention to statistics and rankings, but most of the strategy was "I don't like THAT guy's name" or "We're definitely not picking any Dallas players". At one point I was, um, distracted, and I ended up getting a computer pick instead of the one that I wanted. But I think I still did pretty well, overall.

One benefit of being in a fantasy football league is that it'll make NFL games more interesting. I mean, I may actually be motivated to watch games that don't feature Detroit or Carolina. Whether you consider a descent into Sunday couch-potato-dom a "benefit" may be questionable, I guess. But still, there's the primary benefit of being involved in a new social activity. Yeah, it's demented and sad, but social.

I was hoping you would blog about the draft, and I am glad you had a good time. We were pretty lit on our end as well (Hence my Ricky Williams pick), and it definately adds to the experience. I have two thoughts:
1) YOu really should have taken all QBs.
2) I find the smack on Yahoo! lacking, so here is some smack for you on your own blog.

You are going down in week 1.

NOt my best work, but I will post more as I start to get warmed up during the season.
