Par-TAY
Sunday, 2005 December 18 - 1:03 pm
Last night I stuffed thirty-one guests into my little house for a Christmas and Festivus party.

This was the first party I've had at my house in several years, due to the long series of remodeling projects that I've had going. But now that the downstairs remodeling is pretty much done, it seemed time for a party. So I cleaned up the house, sent out an Evite, and dug up a Charlie Brown tree out of my backyard:

And yes, I also had a Festivus pole up.

Whenever I've thrown parties in the past, I've overbought alcohol. I mean, I've bought like double or triple the amount needed. This time was no exception: I anticipated forty guests, and I bought two gallons of liquor, six bottles of wine, 78 bottles of beer, twenty two-liter bottles of pop (er, soda), three bottles of whiskey sour mix, four cans of frozen dacquiri mix, fifteen one-liter bottles of tonic water... basically enough for the forty guests, IF THEY WERE TO STAY ALL WEEK. Hey, you never know when an ice storm will hit.

Here's just some of what we started with:

Note that I had the Booze-O-Matic loaded ready to go:

And here's some wine. The one on the left was called "House Wine", and we bought it mostly for the name. People said they liked it, though.

And of course, some people brought their own alcohol. I probably should have scheduled an AA meeting immediately after the party.

The food was potluck. I told people we would welcome anything with lots of sugar in it, anything wrapped in bacon, and anything in ball shapes. As it turns out, everyone brought something delicious... even though not everything was wrapped in bacon, and some items were decidedly non-spherical. And everyone brought enough to feed an army. So I think we really could have lasted all week.

Now, everything that was bacon-wrapped was gone in a hurry, but I now have a plethora of leftover dip-like concoctions. I think I may have to have a post-party party to finish everything off. Or then again, Amy and I could just eat snacks and get drunk all week long. Hmm.
