| I am always creeped out by overly friendly service workers. Supermarket Checkout Guy: Hello and welcome to Food Lion! Did you find everything you were looking for? Me: Yes, thank you. SCG: Did you find everything at our EXTRA LOW PRICES? Me: Uh... sure. SCG: "Sure?" (Laughs.) You're supposed to say, "Yes, the prices are SUPER LOW!" Me: I guess so. SCG: Can you at least say we're cheaper than Lowe's Foods? Me: Well, that's true. Bagger Who Speaks Up Unexpectedly: LOWE'S FOODS SUCKS, DUDE. SCG: Darn right, man! Credit or debit? Me: Credit. SCG: (Finishes ring up.) Have a FANTASTIC day, sir! Me: (Sullenly.) Thank you. You too. SCG: THANKS! * * * I felt like I was a participant in some weird psychological experiment. I suppose this is how all New Yorkers or Bostonians would feel when they first encounter Southerners. But this was just over the top, even for the South. |
