Thanksgiving! | Thursday, 2007 November 22 - 10:49 pm |
This was a memorable one. So, much like last year, I ate a lot of food. Oh, and I watched Detroit's annual Thanksgiving-day loss. This year, I made dinner at home, so I could have as many leftovers as I wanted. And man, do we have leftovers. We had five people here, and we served up a 16-pound turkey, a nine-pound ham, copious amounts of macaroni and cheese (I made it again), stuffing, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. (Asparagus sauteed in butter, with garlic. Mmmm.) Oh, there's also another 15-pound turkey in the freezer. Why? Because Amy accidentally bought a fully-cooked smoked turkey instead of a regular uncooked turkey. (I had to go to the Food Lion to pick up a new turkey last night. I just can't serve a pre-cooked turkey on Thanksgiving.) But that's not even the interesting part of the day. The interesting story is, I spent most of the afternoon in the emergency room at Rex Hospital, because our friend Monty broke his foot. Monty lives on the third floor of an apartment complex, and his newly-adopted dog got loose. Chasing after it, Monty figured he'd cut the dog off at the pass by jumping over the stair railing from the second floor. His left heel hit a concrete curb, and pow, broken heel bone. He'll be on crutches for months. (But he still made it over for dinner... good thing he drives an automatic.) So I spent the afternoon fretting about my turkey, which was sitting in the oven while I sat in the waiting room of the hospital. Fortunately, Amy was able to baste for me. Dinner turned out well, and we all fell into a tryptophan coma soon thereafter. I barely stayed awake long enough to blog. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. |

Ok. The Lions have lost 4 in a row, and 6 of the last 7, but they're 33-32-2 over the history of their TG Day games, so I'd hardly call it an "annual loss". Prior to that 1-6 stretch they had a 4 year winning streak, and had gone 9-3 over a 12 year stretch. (yeah, I don't know why I'm defending them either, but there ya go) |

Definitely not a Thanksgiving I will forget. And again, a huge thanks to Ken for going out of his way and helping me out. Here are pics of beast who I was trying to wrangle: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=488753&albumId=2150674 |

What was the probability that after he jumped, the dog would speed up and he'd land on the dog, breaking the dogs leg? |
