Television: The Wednesday Dilemma
Wednesday, 2005 January 19 - 11:19 pm
As we all know, "Lost" is the best show on TV right now. But now that January is here, I have a problem.

First, I should say that ABC is putting out the best television of any network right now. "Lost", "Alias", "Boston Legal", and "Desperate Housewives" are all great shows (though I don't actually watch "Desperate Housewives", and "Alias" is kinda struggling to define itself this season). And it's not just because I'm a whore for Javi's approval that I say "Lost" is absolutely spectacular.

But "American Idol" is back.

Yeah, I know... the viewers of "American Idol" are me and a billion teenage girls. But still... I can't look away. I like watching the train-wreck of people who think they're talented but aren't. I find that kind of arrogance to be a plague in our society. Lots of people hate Simon Cowell for being so harsh in his criticisms, but I think that's just what some people need.

The issue I have is, Fox puts on two episodes every week, and one episode just happens to come at the same time as "Lost" (Wednesday at 8:00). This, combined with the fact that I'm DVR-less at the moment, makes for a real problem. I mean, of course I watch "Lost" in this circumstance, but it's hard not to have "Idol" on in the PIP window at the same time.

Ah well. I think next week's "Lost" is a repeat, and by the time the next new episode comes, maybe I'll have a DVR. Or maybe I'll dig up my old quaintly-analog VCR, assuming it hasn't turned completely to dust by now.

you're a whore for my approval? dude! i'm a whore for yours, but i didn't feel right saying it until now! thanks for breaking the ice!

...uh...

...disregard this advice if you have a neilsen box, but plans are already underway to release the first season lost on dvd sometime before the end of the year... just sayin'...

oooh... and maybe i can get you to autograph it! ka-ching! umm, not that i would sell this hypothetical boxed set on ebay or anything.

p.s. i am pleased that use of the word "whore" on my web site is increasing.
