Entertainment: Goodbye, Johnny, and Thanks
Sunday, 2005 January 23 - 9:58 pm
Johnny Carson died today at the age of 79.

Johnny Carson defined comedy and the talk-show genre for a generation of Americans.

He had a disarming way about him. Always modest and self deprecating, he never thought himself to be bigger than he was. Combined with his spectacular comic timing and his knack for finding the right facial expression at the right time, he was the quintessential talk-show host. As he built "The Tonight Show" into an empire, he vaulted dozens of now-celebrities into the spotlight. He was, with no doubt, the king of late-night.

Johnny, we will miss you.

I am a bit young to really know Carson (aside from watching Dana Carvey imitate him on SNL), but I do remember watching him at my grandparents house when I was younger.
