Must... Blog...
Wednesday, 2005 May 18 - 2:31 am
I'm soooo tired. But I can't let an evening go by without writing something.

It's weird; although I'm sure not many people would really care if I took a day or two off from blogging, I feel like I have an obligation. I have to write something if I have the opportunity. I'm home, the computer's on, and who really needs more than four hours of sleep anyway?

Of course, at 2:30 a.m. it's hard to come up with anything coherent. So we'll have another round of mini-posts.

According to a recent study, there's a chemical in kudzu (a plant that's a menace here in the South, because it grows so fast and chokes off all other vegetation) that may reduce the urge to engage in binge drinking. Apparently, after this chemical is taken, people feel drunker with less alcohol. BOY, DO I NEED THIS. I think there's a win-win possibility here: drunks like me can be sent out to eat kudzu, thus helping the environment while simultaneously enhancing our buzz.

Two television series ended recently and I forgot to comment about them. One was "Star Trek: Enterprise", which ended with such an utterly LAME episode, I nearly had to gouge my own eyes out. It's as if the writers said, "the audience doesn't care any more, so why should we?" It made me remember EVERY reason I stopped watching the show.

The other was "Everybody Loves Raymond". I liked this show every time I watched it, but I never really got addicted to it. The final episode was typically warm and light-hearted, and I think it was appropriate. It wouldn't have fit if there had been some grandiose surprise ending to it.

Sony and Microsoft both recently announced their next-generation gaming consoles, the Xbox-2 and the PlayStation-3. (I'm surprised Sony isn't claiming that the PlayStation-3 is "one better" than the Xbox-2. After all, that worked for Intel for a long time, with those megahertz ratings.) Both devices will also be multimedia consoles, with the ability to play DVDs and music as well as games. I'm generally not one for buying dedicated gaming machines; these days I don't even play many games on my computer (sorry, Cori). But it'll be tempting to pick up one of these rigs.

Another Cannes film festival, another wardrobe malfunction. This time it's the lovely Sophie Marceau.

A new Windows computer virus is spreading rapidly; it's the "Sober.q" virus and it disguises itself as German right-wing propaganda spam. Somehow, that seems just about right. If there were viruses for Macs, they would probably be disguised as messages of peace and love. Maybe there would be bunnies also.

A friend of mine is trying to come up with a name for her pet-sitting business. She wanted something that reflected the attentive and caring environment she would provide. But she's already rejected many good suggestions including "pussy watchers" and "penthouse pets". I guess maybe I'm not the right person to ask.

Oh, right, Xbox 360. I guess that makes it 357 better than the PlayStation 3.

or maybe that their jump in technology went SO FAR OUT, that somehow they did a three sixty and ended up right back where they were.....

so there's no real technology jump since the x-box?

No need to apologize. My bosses would be horrified if they knew how little I play videogames on my own time.

Enterprise finale-ugh. You don't build up this great speech and then not pay it off. I don't want to hear the argument of leaving it to the imagination. It just follows the M.O. of the current Trek writers when they can't come up with anything. And Trip's fate was VERY contrived. I didn't buy it.

Interesting story on the kudzu...
