The news about mad cow disease is driving me crazy.

All the local news stations are making a big deal about the fact that another case of mad cow disease has been detected in the United States. Some local idiots residents have been interviewed, saying that this is the reason they're going to stop eating beef for a while.

Here are some statistics for you:
  • You are 20,000 times more likely to die of a motor vehicle accident than mad cow disease.
  • You are 60,000 times more likely to die of alcohol-related illness than mad cow disease.
  • You are 260,000 times more likely to die from causes related to poor diet and fitness than mad cow disease.
  • You are 300,000 times more likely to die of a tobacco-related illness than mad cow disease.

So, are any of those numbers going to make you pay more attention while driving, stop drinking, start exercising, or stop smoking? Probably not. But stop eating beef? Sure, make that your NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
