I Say It's My Birthday
Saturday, 2005 February 26 - 1:28 pm
I took a break from posting because yesterday was my birthday. Yay me!

So yesterday was my birthday. Funny, I don't feel any older.

Thanks to my lovely lovely friends who sent their well-wishes. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all. I wish I could be one of those people who doesn't care about their own birthday, but I'm not. I mean, I don't need a big party or a cake or presents. I just want people to think of me at LEAST once a year. So to all of you who wished me a happy birthday, thank you thank you thank you.

And now, I'll wish happy birthday back to Earl (whose birthday was also yesterday) and to Steve, whose birthday is today and who has just joined us in the blogosphere. And happy birthday to Ann, whose birthday is tomorrow.

Oh, and though it's probably not her birthday, please also welcome Lisa (Vindauga) to my link bar. I think she's fairly new to blogging but already she writes like a pro.

Anyway, yesterday didn't start off all that special. I went to work as usual. When I used to work at Nortel, sometimes people would decorate each others' cubicles with balloons and streamers on their birthdays, and it was such a great feeling to walk in and see that. But no one does that where I work now. Yet.

I didn't get taken out to lunch. That'll happen on Monday. I guess my birthday is celebrated like President's Day.

I almost didn't get taken out to dinner. I waited through the afternoon and evening for someone to ring me to invite me out... and waited and waited. At 6:30 I was faced with the choice of grabbing a bite to eat myself and going curling (there's a curling club here, which is weird; I'll write more about that in the future), or spending the evening at home alone. So I ate a hot dog and packed up to go curling. Yeah, it sounds pretty sad, I know.

But then, Anna saved me, as she often does. She saved my birthday evening by having me over for sushi and martinis. Yummmmm. We had a grand old time and we polished off a mini-bottle of Grey Goose. Here's me trying to catch the last few drops of it... WITH MY EYE. Note that by this point, the earth's gravity had shifted by sixty degrees.

So it was a good birthday after all. And now I'm getting taken out for dinner on Sunday AND Tuesday, and lunch on Monday, and who knows what else. It's nice to have friends that care about me. I may complain endlessly about my job and my love life and my lack of golfing skills, but I cannot complain about the love of my friends.

One other thing: my driver's license expired this year, so I had to get a new one. Here's the picture:

Apparently, I am AquaMan! At least, I think that's the effect they were trying to achieve with their stupid embedded holograms. Now whenever I get pulled over, they will ask me to demonstrate my Atlantean telepathic powers. Damn it.

Another belated happy birthday wish.

The AquaMan effect goes nicely with being a Pisces ...

Thanks, Niki. :)

So far, I have not been successful in my attempts to convince the sea creatures to find me a mermaid companion.

Ach, mermaids ... notoriously fickle. If I was a single bloke on the prowl for a mythological female, I'd opt for one of those wild devotees of Bacchus - the Maenads.

They did have a habit of tearing guys to pieces after they'd had their way with them, though. Which could prove to be a slight hitch ;)

Well, that wouldn't be much different than any of my ex-girlfriends. ;)
