New restaurants in Raleigh.

You may have caught this article in the News and Observer... apparently, Nana's Chophouse on Davie Street is closing soon. Nana's Chophouse was a spin-off of the popular Nana's in Durham. Last time Amy and I went to the Chophouse, it was nearly deserted, and the food and service weren't quite up to par. It would have been interesting to see a "Kitchen Nightmares" episode about the place... I mean, here you've got a classy restaurant in a premium location, and it's failing? Weird.

In place of Nana's Chophouse will be The Pit, an upscale barbecue restaurant featuring free-range hormone-free North Carolina pork barbecue. Yum. It'll be open for dinner only at first; I suspect that when it opens for lunch, I'll be there frequently.

The longtime downtown institution, Est! Est! Est! Trattoria, is closing to make way for a second Waraji. Waraji, for those who don't know, is my choice for the top Japanese restaurant in Raleigh, so having a second location open downtown is pretty exciting.

This..."Waraji," you speak of...where does though exist?

The original Waraji is on Duraleigh, just south of Glenwood, near the Pleasant Valley shopping center. http://www.warajirestaurant.com/
