Election Watch
Thursday, 2004 October 28 - 9:56 pm
Five days left.

A site I visit every day now is the Electoral Vote Predictor. It's a really well-done web site that projects electoral college results based on current polls. It also provides election-related news items, like stuff about lawsuits and voting irregularities and such.

The current results show Kerry slightly ahead, with Michigan and Iowa dead even. But really, there are still 12 states (representing 150 electoral votes) where the race could go either way, so it remains too close to call.

I think Kerry needs to win Ohio. That seems to be the key to everything. (Jen, are you reading? Get out there and rally those voters!)

There's rumors of a possible faithless Republican elector in West Virginia. That might be key, because a tie election (269 to 269) would go to the House of Representatives, and therefore give the Presidency to Bush; but one vote could swing it to Kerry. There was also a problem with one Democratic elector in Ohio. Apparently, they were dumb enough to appoint a Congressman to be an elector, even though he's legally ineligible because of his position. But all is well; the Democratic party will appoint a replacement.

This weekend, time permitting, I'll provide a complete voting guide for voters in Wake County. On Tuesday evening, I'll be providing live updates on the web as election returns come in. Hopefully, by the end of the night, we'll all be celebrating!

I'm reading, I'm reading! I have a sign in my yard, three stickers on my car, and I offered my students extra credit if they vote for Kerry. OK, the last is a lie, but I do have stickers and a yard sign!
