Republicans getting caught with their pants down?

According to an AP article today: "Supreme Court nominee John Roberts disparaged state efforts to combat discrimination against women in Reagan-era documents made public Thursday -- and wondered whether 'encouraging homemakers to become lawyers contributes to the common good.'" I thought that might be of interest to my female readers.

Citizens in solidly red-state Nebraska gave a consistent message to Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, as he toured around his home state: they are concerned about the quagmire in Iraq, and the rising price of oil. Hagel, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2008, seemed to distance himself from President Bush: "The expectations that the president and his administration presented to the American people two and a half years ago is not what the reality is today. That's presented the biggest credibility gap problem he's got."

Ohio Governor Bob Taft issued an apology after pleading no contest to four counts of violating ethics laws, having received 52 gifts totaling over $5800 without reporting them. In his last campaign, one of Taft's main themes was upholding high ethical standards in office. (Ahem.) Taft did not receive any jail time and refused to offer a resignation.

And as NPR mentioned this morning, Roberts married a lawyer who later became a mother.
