Odd-Year Elections | Thursday, 2005 November 10 - 8:16 am |
A very odd year. Interesting. Democrats win hotly contested governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia, and Schwarzenegger's ballot initiatives are soundly defeated. Just about everyone is talking about how the Democratic party is back in the running, and the GOP is getting increasingly worried about 2006. Perhaps there's some hope there. One of the more interesting things in this recent election: In Dover, Pennsylvania, voters ousted eight of nine school board members who backed an "intelligent-design" statement in biology class. That will hopefully send a message to Kansas, where the Board of Education just approved intelligent-design language in their educational standards by a 6-4 vote. I'd like to note that if you Google "kansas laughingstock", you get 32,900 hits, and most of them have to do with this intelligent-design stuff. You know what I'm saying, Kansas? |
