Triangle Area Voter Guide 2006, Part 5: Chatham/Orange County Races
Monday, 2006 November 6 - 1:10 pm
Tomorrow is election day! Here are my endorsements for Chatham and Orange County local elections.

My endorsements are in boldface. See Part 1 for statewide and U.S. Congressional Races.

N.C. Senate

N.C. Senate District 18
(D) Bob Atwater

N.C. Senate District 23
(R) E.B. Alston
(D) Ellie Kinnaird
Not even close. Alston is a demagogue of the worst kind.

N.C House

N.C. House District 50
(D) Bill Faison

N.C. House District 54
(D) Joe Hackney
(R) Alvin Reed
Just look at Reed's crazy web site and you'll know all you need to know.

N.C. House District 56
(D) Verla Insko

Chatham and Orange County Courts

Superior Court District 15B
Charles "Chuck" Anderson
Allen Baddour
Carl Fox
Adam Stein

District Court District 15B
Joseph Moody "Joe" Buckner

District Attorney District 15B
(D) Jim Woodall

Other Orange County Elections

Orange County Clerk of Court
(D) James "Jamie" C. Stanford

Orange County Register of Deeds
(D) Joyce Pearson

Orange County Sheriff
(R) William "Buddy" Parker
(D) Lindy Pendergrass

Orange County Board of Commissioners
(R) Jamie Daniel
(D) Alice Gordon
(D) Barry Jacobs
(D) Mike Nelson
The Democratic candidates all emphasis environmental concerns and public transportation. No need to change course here; the Democratic incumbents should stay.

Orange County Soil and Water Conservation Board
Charles W. Snipes
William C. Hogan
Will Shooter

Orange County Districting Referendum
YES.
Rural areas of Orange County feel they are not getting enough representation. While this would likely result in Republicans being elected to the board of commissioners, it's probably good to achieve more balanced representation.

Other Chatham County Elections

Chatham County Clerk of Court
(D) Janice Oldham

Chatham County Sheriff
(D) Richard Webster

Chatham County Commissioner District 3
(D) George Lucier

Chatham County Commissioner District 4
(D) Tom Vanderbeck
(R) Karl Ernst

Chatham County Commissioner District 5
(D) Carl Thompson

Chatham County Board of Education District 3
(I) Ken Harris
(D) Kathie Russell

Chatham County Board of Education District 4
(I) Doug Burke
(D) Clyde Harris
(I) Deb McManus
(I) Gerald Totten

Chatham County Soil and Water District Supervisor
Johnny Glosson
Richard Hayes
Blake Lindley Andrew Jr.

Chatham County Districting Referendum
NO.
This is a bit unlike the Orange County proposal, in that districting would tend to dilute certain groups' voting power and lead to disenfranchisement.
