Apple Watch: iBook G4
Sunday, 2005 August 7 - 1:38 am
Well, I've gone and done it.

I believe it speaks volumes that the only people who have ceremonies for unboxing their computers are Apple owners. The Internet is awash with stories of people who invite their friends over for wine, cheese, and the unveiling of their new Macintoshes. People do love their Macs, like the way they love their nieces and nephews. A Dell is more like a mother-in-law: something you're just required to tolerate.

At the Apple store in Durham on Friday afternoon, the line for buying computers was about forty people long. Lots of people were taking advantage of the North Carolina tax-free holiday. An employee said that in the morning, the line was out the door and around the side of the building. I think it's safe to say that none of these folks were worried about Apple's upcoming transition to Intel processors.

Most of the people seemed to be buying iMac G5s, both in the 17" and 20" flavors. Only a few were there to buy iBooks.

I was one of those few. Meet Nadia, my new iBook G4:

Opening the box, there's a cardboard insert that says "Designed by Apple in California."

The accessories are neatly arranged at the top.

When I exposed the computer itself, I exclaimed "IT'S BEAUTIFUL" as light poured out of the box. Then my face melted off.

Here she is in all her naked beauty.

She was up and running in no time:

Isn't she lovely?

Did you get THE mouse? let me know what you think of the track pad.

They were out of stock on the Mighty Mouse.

So far, I like the two-finger-scrolling trackpad. It's pretty intuitive, except that I was using a utility called "SideTrack" on the Pismo, and that employs a different method for scrolling.

I dropped mine yesterday. *sob*

Good thing I bought the Mighty Mouse the second the ad appeared in my inbox!

*prolonged sobbing*

Oh, Mindy. I just read about that on your blog. I'm so sorry.
