Today's Frozen Meal: Lean Cuisine Spinach and Mushroom Pizza
Friday, 2010 January 8 - 12:09 pm
"Spinach & mushrooms with a creamy alfredo sauce." As opposed to the chunky alfredo sauce that we're all expecting, I guess.

Box

Meal

The clever part about this meal is that the box folds up into a cooking platform with a silvery crisping sheet for the crust. It's a good deal healthier than the Papa John's pizza, though I guess that wouldn't be true if I ate three of them. And this thing is pretty tiny, so there's a good chance I could eat three. At 173 grams, the whole thing is only slightly larger than a single slice of the veggie pizza from yesterday (161 grams). It's half the size of the frozen entrees from earlier in the week.

Taste: Bland. The ingredients claim to include parmesan cheese and garlic powder, but mostly, the thing tasted like mozzarella cheese on some doughy bread. The crust doesn't really get all that crisp, despite the crisping tray. You could taste the mushrooms, but only barely. I'd have heaped on some roasted garlic, black pepper, and more parmesan cheese to improve the flavor. Some wild mushrooms might have helped too. And did I mention this pizza is tiny? Score: 2.0/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: Not quite so good. 4 grams of saturated fat is unfortunate, and the fiber content is low. Still low in calories, moderately low in overall fat, and low in sodium, though that's partly due to the small serving size. Score: 2.0/3.0

Packaging: It has the clever crisping platform, but the interior shrink wrap was a bit fiddly to open. Score: 1.5/2.0

Total Score: 5.5/10.0

I love the "Roasted Vegetable" version of this pizza.
