Today's Frozen Meal: Lean Cuisine Deluxe Pizza
Wednesday, 2010 January 13 - 3:53 pm
"Sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, roasted peppers & onions with a four cheese blend."

Box

Meal

Much like the spinach and cheese pizza from the other day: tiny. But this does advertise a new crust, and sure enough, the crust seemed crisper and less doughy than the last one.

Taste: Compared to the spinach and cheese pizza, there's more flavor (from the meat, obviously). But the tradeoff here is that they've greatly reduced the amount of cheese on the pizza, probably in attempt to rein in the fat content. In fact the "four cheese blend" is primarily fake mozzarella cheese (it's still dairy, but it's reduced fat, and bulked up with corn starch) and a tiny amount of parmesan, romano, and asiago... it all pretty much disintegrated in the microwave. Some kind of mashup between this pizza and the other one might be nice, but then I'm sure it'd end up with 14 grams of fat. The new crust is an improvement. The sauce was okay; it would have been better if it hadn't mostly soaked into the crust. It's still tiny. TINY! Score: 3.0/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: 8 grams of total fat, but it's surprisingly lower in saturated fat than the spinach and cheese version; again, that's probably because this one had almost no cheese. The other nutrition numbers are decent. Score: 2.5/3.0

Packaging: Just like the last one: it has the clever crisping platform, but the interior shrink wrap was a bit fiddly to open. Score: 1.5/2.0

Total Score: 7.0/10.0
