Sunday Randomness
Sunday, 2005 May 22 - 11:57 pm

Today was a fairly useless day. I spent most of it catching up on television shows that I recorded. If you were thinking about watching the Britney Spears reality show, DON'T. It was utter inanity.

As usual, I did a bunch of web surfing. Did anyone notice that the Hotmail web site was down all weekend? That was irritating, since I use a Hotmail account for all my on-line dating correspondence. Damn Microsoft weasels; not only are they trying to take over the world, they're also interfering with my love life.

I saw an article on-line about a Huck Finn high school production that got edited out of a C-Span talent show, because the production had a black Huck Finn and a white Jim, and the play's license holder (R&H Theatricals) objected. I don't know what to think about that. On the one hand, I applaud the high school kids for taking a risk; but on the other hand, race is such an important part of the roles in that play, and I can understand wanting to uphold the artistic vision. When I was in college, I was involved in a production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and we cast women in the roles of Pontius Pilate and King Herod. I think that was okay, because there wasn't a scene that involved Pilate having a vasectomy or anything. But a white slave in the deep South? That's kind of a stretch.

I spent some time playing "Tiger Woods Golf" on the computer. One thing I enjoy about the game is that the audio commentary is full of sexual innuendo. Some examples: "Look at how long that one is!" "Keep it firm, keep it straight, it'll go in." "He's pulled out the big stick, I see." "Oh, that's ENORMOUS." Okay, it's all very sophomoric. But there's just too much stuff like this to be accidental.

I started to write a bunch of blog articles this evening, but I threw a bunch of them away. One was an article called "Things I Know", and it got to be so pompous and self-promoting that I just had to delete it. The "Finding My Own Hall of Fame" article started to go down that path too, until I went back and did some editing on it.

I think tonight will end with a glass of scotch and a bubble bath. No more philosophizing for this weekend; my brain is on 'E' right now.
