Monday Miscellany

Alcohol is healthy, isn't it?

I didn't exactly have the healthiest lunch today. I had fried chicken from Bojangle's.

The rest of the afternoon, I could smell the chicken grease coming out of my pores. I could smell chicken grease when I went to pee. I left a little trail of grease behind me wherever I walked.

So, I HAD to go running to atone for this, even though it was 90 degrees out and the humidity was 99%. As I ran, stray dogs chased after me, thinking, "Hey, there's a big fried chicken running around the park!"

But hey, today's two-mile time was 16:24. Boo-yah. Can I please get an AMEN? I think that's a New Ken Record.

I would have loved to have celebrated by guzzling a bunch of beer afterwards, but I guess that would have defeated the whole purpose of it. And plus, I don't have any beer in the house. Actually, I'm totally bereft of alcohol right now, which is weird. I'll have to go stock up.

And that reminds me, after Lisa mentioned drinking gin the other day, I looked up this web page about some of the best gins around, and now I'm thinking of having my own taste test session. Anyone want to join me? We can do another one for scotch, and then another one for vodka... you know, as long as we drink to each others' health, it's GOT to be good for us, right?

Maybe that should be our next community blogging session!

You definitely should do one for vodka.

do they make non-alcholic gin for those of us who are knocked up?

actually, i hate gin; i think that it tastes like pine sol. not that i've tasted pine sol... i just think that they'd taste the same.

Bojangles is the best, it seemed to help your run. Maybe you need to start eating more of it. Not sure if your colon can handle it.

My favorite gin is Bombay Sapphire. I can't handle martinis, so usually it is strong G&T's. On a recent trip to a duty free store they gave you and extra $5 off if you bought 2 bottles of Bombay. I just had to. My typical, affordable gin is plain old Seagram's.

Rum, I say. Rum!

I'm with Nicholas on the Sapphire. I only drink vodka if it's in a Bloody Mary, and any more than one rum drink is usually too sweet for my liking. I suppose we could all choose our beverage of choice and report our findings. Except that I can't really afford to purchase multiple bottles of the same variety of liquor, so I'll just get drunk and make up my results.

Yeah, lots of folks swear by Bombay Sapphire, but I want to try Citadelle because it's French and it would look good sitting next to my Grey Goose vodka.

What kind of rum is good to drink straight up?

Great. Now I want to try the French gin. Not until I finish my gallon of Tanqueray first, though. Dinner before dessert, you know.

As for the rum, I'm no expert, but I like the Captain Morgan Private Stock. I'm guessing that's a pretty pedestrian option.
