Dating Update: VetGirl
Tuesday, 2005 August 2 - 11:59 pm
As if my dating life hadn't gotten complicated enough already...

First, I want to make something very clear: I am not a "playa". I generally do not engage in multiple dating. I barely have the energy to date one woman properly, much less two or three. And, I almost never experience occasions where I have more than one woman even remotely interested in me at the same time. And if that does happen, I'm usually to dense to even realize what's going on. I guess what I'm trying to say is: don't be hatin'.

Before leaving for BlogHer, I'd made a date with VetGirl (whom I've mentioned before). You see, even though I was hopeful that I would make a connection with one of the beautiful and charming BlogHer attendees, I fully expected that I would fail to do so. And I certainly didn't expect that there would be kind and well-intentioned women there, trying to play Cupid on my behalf. Making a date for the Tuesday after BlogHer seemed like a reasonable idea at the time.

After having my head spun around at BlogHer, I started to think: should I keep this date? Would that be right? And then I realized, of course I should. As much as I'm thrilled with fact that I connected with people who live on the other side of the continent, and with the unexpected possibilities that have opened up, I have to remember that three thousand miles is a very long ways. And, one weekend of good times doesn't equate to a relationship, no matter how much I'd like it to.

So tonight I met VetGirl. We had drinks at the Rockford and that quickly turned into dinner also. VetGirl turned out to be an absolute bundle of adorableness, the kind of person you want to hug and squeeze and call George. It turns out we have quite a bit in common; the notable exception is the fact she likes her beef well-done, whereas I like it moo-cow rare. There might be a conflict of interest with us if she were performing an operation on a prime specimen of Kobe beef cattle; I would be there with a knife and fork in my hand instead of a scalpel and forceps.

Oh, and there's this: she's not a blogger. Yet. Someone had remarked that I should probably date a blogger, because there's a distinct philosophical difference between people who blog and people who don't. But she said that her life is "an open book", so perhaps the philosophical gulf is not so wide after all.

I like this girl. The reason you know this is because I told her about The Real Kato Online, and I asked her if I could write about her. I certainly wouldn't do that if I were going to write something horrible.

So VetGirl, welcome to the very public world of my dating life. Internets, please be gentle with her.

Maybe being a blogger is the kind of thing that they can only be one in any relationship. Maybe two would upset the balance of the internet. Althought it would be really funny.

doesn't it get complicated when you tell more than one woman you like about this site?

Sometimes, terribly terribly complicated, yes. But seeing as how there's usually only one (or zero) women in the picture anyway, I don't think about that problem much. :)
