Workplace Irritations
Friday, 2005 September 16 - 8:14 am
I don't THINK this will get me dooced.

Three workplace irritations:
  • In the new building under construction across the street, the fire alarm goes off five or six times a day, with a shrill BEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEP that lasts for about fifteen minutes.
  • Someone outside the company keeps dialing the phone number for the conference room near my office... and that phone doesn't roll over to voice mail, so the phone keeps ringing for several minutes at a time. It makes an electronic beeeep beeep sound when it rings
  • The copier is near my office, and it also makes all kinds of beeping noises when it's upset about something.
I'm not a big fan of beeping, as you might be able to tell. I'm distracted easily by noises. Sometimes I'll put on my headphones so I can listen to music and try to drown out everything else, but that gets tiring after a while, and it makes me seem aloof to visitors. I wish I just had some sort of machine that would specifically cancel out beeping noises, by putting out anti-beeping sound waves. Bose, help me out a little here.

Wow. At least take charge about that phone. Pick it up and tell the caller to please refrain from dialing the number. If that doens't work, take it off the hook for a day or two.

Good thing you don't work inside a casino, eh?

Can you turn the phone's ringer off?

Or ask the administration to give it a voicemail box (that does not accept messages) with a message for the caller to call the main number?

As for the fire alarm, that sucks. Alarms are soo annoying. Me, I hate the car alarms of people who park near my apartment. They are pointless really.
