Shopping Spree
Monday, 2005 September 19 - 10:54 pm
It's Christmas all year 'round here at the RKO ranch.

I've been on an online shopping spree lately. Part of it has been birthday presents for others, but I've also been shopping for myself. As the kids would say: I lurve me some Amazon.com.

Some of the things I've bought recently:

TiVo. As I mentioned. Also, a wireless USB adapter for it.

Lost, Season 1 DVD. This is a no-brainer, isn't it? Congratulations again to Javi, by the way, for a well-deserved Emmy. I was so tickled to see him looking all suave and hip with his yellow sunglasses, and grabbing the prime location on stage to get his mug on TV. Oh, and don't forget, Season 2 of Lost starts this Wednesday.

The Blues Brothers 25th Anniversary Edition DVD.
Finding Nemo, Collector's Edition DVD.
The Incredibles, Collector's Edition DVD. Just some things I figured I should own.

Norelco Reflex Plus Shaving System. My ancient Norelco razor is about to die, so I'm getting a new one. Do I really need THREE rotating heads? I dunno. But it's what I'm used to. When I started shaving, I used my dad's Norelco razor, and I kept using it all the way through college. I bought a new Norelco for myself when I was 21, and it's lasted over a decade. Hard to argue with reliability.

Franz Ferdinand's single "Do You Want To". Okay, this wasn't an Amazon.com purchase. I bought this off the iTunes Music Store because Geese Aplenty mentioned it, I previewed it, and I liked what I heard. That's the beauty of the iTMS... impulse buying.

Now my house is even more full of little brown Amazon.com boxes. Ahhh. I get warm just thinking about them.

You traded the Bluesmobile for a microphone?!?!?

So, with Tivo and the Mac, is it possible to download stuff from the Tivo box and burn it to DVD? Or...should I even be talking of such things on an open forum...because I'm really not that interested in doing something like that.

It's theoretically possible if you use VirtualPC, but realistically, you'd probably be better off buying one of those units with a built-in DVD recorder. Me, I have a $100 PC lying around that I use mostly for connecting to work, but now it's gonna be my TiVoToGo box too.

TiVo has claimed that they're working on TiVoToGo for the Mac, but I don't know if it'll ever happen. They're reliant on Windows Media for their DRM right now. Maybe once Apple comes out with their video iPod and QuickTime-based DRM, TiVo will decide it's worth it.

Cool...well, not. Don't these people realize the Mac is made for digital video??!? Anyhoo, in general though, TiVo'd video can be brought into some form of PC then. That's one of the things I've been wanting to know. Thanx!
