Uuuugggghh
Wednesday, 2006 January 11 - 2:33 pm
Somebody bring me some orange juice.

The bad news is, I am sick as a dog right now. The good news is, that means today is a full day of sleeping, lying on couches, more sleeping, and watching TiVo. And then more sleeping.

As a kid, I used to get sick several times a year. I actually have some nice memories of that, though... Mom would bring me soup, and Coke, and cold towels to put on my forehead. And she'd play Connect-4 with me for hours and hours.

One time, I think it was in third or fourth grade, I had the lead in a school play, and I got sick a couple of weeks before the performance. But I felt like I couldn't miss rehearsals, so I bundled up and rode my bike to school... through about a foot of snow on the ground. (There's a good story for the grandkids someday.) The greatest part was, all the other kids applauded when they saw me stagger into the room for rehearsal. I felt like "Rudy" or something.

Nowadays I'm pretty much a wuss... if I get sick, everything else drops off the priority list, and sleeping is my main objective.

Well, that and blogging.

One thing I hate is when co-workers get sick, and they insist on coming to the office and spreading all their germs around. Really, guys, your work is not that important; I'd sooner you just stayed home. With that in mind, really, I'm doing everyone a favor by not coming to work, right? It's a win-win situation for all of us.

I agree about the staying home if you are sick. If you are hourly, and broke, I guess I could see it. But some people just have this idea that they must always work, no matter what. Do you work in National Security? Fine, then stay home.

In co-worker defense everywhere, you are contangious (sp?) up to two weeks before you show symptoms, so what can you do? Just ride it out I suppose, bitching helps. Your mom didn't give you Vernors? And you lived in Michigan? Amy, find some Vernors, stat!

Last year, if the husband had stayed home every time he should have, he would have used all his sick time by the third week of January. What can you do? Wash your hands, don't touch your face and cover your mouth, I guess.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Don't tell me your mom never gave you an umeboshi in a cup of green tea?

You know Marsha, my sister was a big umeboshi fan, but I was always kinda grossed out by it. She would always leave the seeds lying around the house after sucking on them for half a day.

Mom did make plenty of okayu, though.
