Television: Idol Update, Week 11
Wednesday, 2006 May 3 - 6:59 pm
5 remaining; each sing two Billboard hit songs.

Okay, very quickly:

Paris Bennett: 8/10 and 7/10. Overall=8.6
Not as strong as she's been, but not bad. Lower register weak as usual. I liked her Prince song, but Simon thought it was screechy and annoying.

Katharine McPhee: 6/10 and 9/10. Overall=8.4.
She looks nice tonight. First song was dull and pitchy, but the second song was much better.

Chris Daughtry: 9/10 and 8/10. Overall=8.1.
"Renegade" was a great choice, "I dare you" not as good. Starts to lose his voice near the end and it gets shouty. But pretty strong.

Taylor Hicks: 9/10 and 7/10. Overall=7.7.
"Play That Funky Music" is wildly fun, but it's not a terribly inventive or daring choice. That's starting to become Taylor's problem. "Something" (by the Beatles) is on the charts now? It's a good song, but I think his performance of it is just average.

Elliott Yamin: 5/10 and 5/10. Overall=6.2.
Dull, stiff, geeky, pitchy in parts... time for Elliott to go, no matter what Paula says about the "richness" of his voice.

Paris and Elliott are the bottom two, and... Paris is out. I think she turned into the Jasmine Trias of this year... likable but inconsistent, and ultimately too much of a niche appeal.
