Bush Approval Ratings Hit New Low
Monday, 2006 May 15 - 8:18 am
Again.

Twenty-nine percent. That's the latest number. Of the people who voted for Bush but now disapprove of him, I wonder how many would concede that we should have put Kerry in office?

The latest fiasco: another domestic spying revelation. This time, we find that the NSA has been mining through phone call records of American citizens, looking for terrorist connections. Again, this is without any authorization or oversight from Congress or the courts. Bush, of course, says this is within the bounds of his authority, because he has to do "whatever he can" to fight terrorists.

My question for Bush is this: at what point do you believe your authority ends? Because right now, it sounds like you believe you're allowed to do whatever the hell you want. You've already got surveillance without warrants and indefinite detention of prisoners without formal charges, and you think you don't need any oversight for that. How about mining through tax returns and credit card purchases? Reading people's email? Where does it end?

Mr. Bush: the war on terror does not make you a king or a dictator. You are bound by the Constitution to abide by the checks and balances built into our governmental system. To do anything else would make you a traitor to our country. 71% of us already seem to understand that; when will you?

Did you see the spin Karl Rove tried to put on the approval rating numbers? I laughed long and hard and imagined that Rove swung a pocket watch in front of the interviewer and told him he was getting very sleepy while he spouted off his garbage.

Two things... did you read that he was also using his privilige to track "un-named" sources from ABC news?

Secondly... I am getting the impression that he has lost the confidence of the fundimentalist christians. The the Reconstructionist types. the really scary ones. That could account for part of the drop.
