U.S. and world politics.

George Bush is ignoring laws at his own discretion, using "signing statements" to override statutes that he disagrees with. Here's something that puzzles me: why haven't Democrats jumped on the phrase "executive activism" to describe this? Judges get scorn heaped upon them (undeservedly) for "judicial activism", and what Bush is doing is an order of magnitude worse.

Maybe the recent Supreme Court decision about Guantanamo Bay military tribunals will put the brakes on Bush for a while.

A proposed Constitutional amendment to let Congress outlaw flag-burning fell one vote short of passing the Senate. That means the nation's biggest problem, the out-of-control flag burning that threatens our lives on a daily basis, will still not be prevented. How will we live?

Saddam Hussein went on a "hunger strike" earlier this week to protest something or another. The hunger strike lasted for exactly one meal. Saddam, you're no Gandhi. Now Amy and I will frequently say things like, "I'm on a hunger strike... I'm not going to have an appetizer before dinner."

East Timor has been plagued for weeks with political and civil unrest. But I think they should be most worried about the Giant-Mouthed Cannibals that are running around.
