Apple Watch: MacBook Pro 17" | Tuesday, 2006 April 25 - 8:02 am |
Apple releases another Intel-based notebook. Yesterday Apple released the MacBook Pro with a 17" screen. It shares most of the same specifications as the higher-end 15" MacBook Pro, except that it has a double-layer SuperDrive, a slightly larger hard drive, and a FireWire 800 port. For those who had predicted the death of FireWire due to the fact that the 15" MacBook Pro only had FW400 ports, nyaaaaah. There's no 12"/13" MacBook Pro model yet, and no Intel-based equivalent of the iBook (whatever it will be called). I've gotta believe that's only due to component shortages, though, rather than a technical issue; it's pretty clear that Apple has figured out the engineering to make Intel-based machines a reality. So I think those machines are coming shortly. And for similar reasons, I'd expect the DL SuperDrive to make it into the 15" MacBook Pro soon. Hopefully new models are coming soon, because I'm shipping iBook Nadia off to Crouching Hamster. Hopefully that will jump start her blog again. |
