American Idol 2008 Week 2: The Guys | Tuesday, 2008 February 26 - 9:29 pm |
It's 70s night. Michael "Aussie" Johns: 3.0 "Go Your Own Way". It's a little pitchy in parts, and not very strong. It's bad, like drunken karaoke. I like him, but this was weak. I give him a 3. Amy gives him a 3. Jason "Battlefield Earth" Castro: 7.0 Okay, he's funny, at least. "I Just Wanna Be Your Everything". He comes out with the guitar again and... it's actually pretty good. It's got a little bit of a modern twist, and there's a cool vibe to it. I give him an 7. Amy gives him a 7. Luke "Perry" Menard: 5.5 "Killer Queen". It's pretty good. He's comfortable with this, clearly. It's a little cheesy, and not terribly original, but it's definitely in his wheelhouse. I give him a 6. Amy gives him a 5. Robbie Carrico: 3.5 "Hot Blooded", egads. I'm not terribly impressed; this song is all about energy, and he doesn't have it. It's vocally not impressive either. I give him a 3. Amy gives the monkey a 4 (for his hairy hands). Danny Noriega: 3.5 "Long Ago and Oh So Far Away". The Carpenters, huh. You know, I thought this was going to be horrible, and it's turning out okay. It's a little safe, and kind of pageant-y (he, uh, might fit better in the girls' competition), but an improvement over last week. I give him a 6. Amy gives him a 1. David Hernandez: 5.0 "Papa Was a Rolling Stone". I hate his little faces and head nods, but vocally it's not bad. It lacks a bit of grit and soul, though; he's got too much of a rich privileged vibe for a song like this. I give him a 5. Amy gives him a 5. Jason Yeager: 1.5 "Long Train Running". This should be a great song, but he sounds squeaky trying to sing it; it's vocally weak, and he looks and sounds cheesy. I think I hate this. I give him a 2. Amy gives him a 1. Chikezie Eze: 5.5 I don't know this song... "I Believe" or something? It's a little old-school R&B. Vocally pretty good; I just don't like the song much. It's definitely in his wheelhouse, though, and he had energy. I give him a 7. Amy gives him a 4. David Cook: 4.0 "All Right Now". Hmm. The guitar seems to be a distraction, and he doesn't quite have the energy and passion for this. It seems very garage-band mediocre. I give him a 4. Amy gives him a 4. David Archuleta: 9.5 "Imagine", a country-ish guitar version. Vocally pretty good, and he's performing it well. Might be the first performance I've seen all year that fits the song; it's the first breakout performance we've seen. Paula cries. Randy and Simon love it. I give him a 9. Amy gives him a 10. My bottom three: David Cook, Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico. |
