Today's Frozen Meal: Amy's Macaroni and Cheese
Thursday, 2010 January 28 - 12:38 pm
"Made with organic pasta". And cheese. It's macaroni and cheese: not a lot of mystery here.

Box

Meal

This is the low-sodium version. I guess this means there's also another version with 580mg of sodium out there, which still isn't a lot.

Taste: Well, it's definitely macaroni and cheese. It's pretty ordinary: the sauce is just cheddar cheese, milk, and butter, with a bit of rice flour (to thicken it, I guess) and sea salt. So it's pretty much the same basic mac and cheese as what you could make at home, except at home I would add some black pepper. (What's with the self-imposed moratorium on black pepper by the frozen food industry, anyway?) And the lack of salt is noticeable. I might try the regular version of this product to compare it. The portion is on the small side. Score: 2.5/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: Yikes, 16 grams of fat! 10 grams of saturated fat! It is very low in sodium, and all that cheese helps boost the calcium content, but ouch, that's a lot of fat for a tiny meal like this. Score: 1.0/3.0

Packaging: You have to stir after four minutes and cook for an additional two minutes, but otherwise pretty convenient. Score: 1.5/2.0

Total Score: 5.0/10.0
