The Secret World of Og, Part II
Tuesday, 2005 May 31 - 11:32 pm
I've finished my book restoration.

I'm pleased with the way the project turned out.

It took a bit of experimenting. Along the way, I discovered that:
  • my little inexpensive printer (a Canon iP1500) DOES have a borderless-printing mode
  • my little inexpensive printer makes surprisingly good prints
  • it makes a HUGE difference printing on photo paper versus plain paper
  • it's important to laminate a color print before picking it up with wet hands
  • it's important to perform the lamination process correctly to avoid bubbles, hairs, and food crumbs
  • as proficient as I may be at clone-stamping in Photoshop, I absolutely suck at book-binding
  • white glue is not my friend

I mean, on the outside, it looks GREAT. But I kinda made a mess of the inside front cover. The good news is, I can probably figure out a way to clean it up, eventually. I just have to stop playing with it right now, or the book will become one huge mass of glue.

This came out so well, I'm looking around my house to see if there's any other books that need restoration. I don't think I'll find any, though, because with my OWN books, I'm anal-retentive about keeping them in good condition.

Magic! It looks amazing. I have PLENTY of books that could use your help, though I do sometimes like the look of a worn book. It adds character. (At least that's what I tell the books when they start complaining that they're embarrassed to leave the house in their condition.)

Not only do you need to use photo paper... you need to tell the computer you are using photo paper. I wish it just KNEW these things.
