Myers-Briggs fun. Co-worker Tim and I were talking today about our Myers-Briggs personality types. I think we'd had this conversation several times before, but it always seems to make for an interesting topic. No doubt most of you have taken a personality test of this sort, but if you haven't, you might want to give it a try. The free on-line versions of the test are a little abbreviated and not very accurate, but it'll put you in the ballpark. Growing up, I was always an INTJ. It's a typical personality for an engineer or an academic: perfectionist, a little bit cold, and ruthlessly practical. As I've grown older, I'm still definitely an "N". That is to say, I'm intuitive and not sensing, which means I tend to look for the hidden meaning beyond just the facts at hand. But all my other personality traits have drifted. I've recently tested as being an INFP. Of course, tests are a little unreliable now that I know what the possible results might be, but I think INFP is right. I'm still somewhat of an introvert ("I"), though not to the same extreme as when I was younger. I'm definitely leaning more towards feeling ("F") than thinking ("T") nowadays. I'm kind of on the fence between judging ("J") and perceiving ("P"). When Tim stopped by my cubicle to talk more about this last attribute, he said: "I've been thinking more about the J/P-ness". I said, "The J what?" He said "P-ness" twice more before catching himself, but not before other coworkers started to wonder what he was talking about. I laughed until my sides hurt. |

It was not nearly as embarrassing having said it as it was not catching on for so long. I have always been an INFx. The J/P-itude is the odd one. I think I have strong tendencies in both directions, but as I have gotten older the J has taken more charge (P couldn't seem to get anything done). |

ESFJ Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging. I don't think they scored me high enough on the judging |

ISTJ. So much so that even when I do the silly Meyer's Briggs (Harry Potter, Star Trek), I get the same answer. |
