New York New York
Tuesday, 2005 October 18 - 1:36 am
The trip with Amy, to visit Crouching Hamster in New York.

Here's a warning, if you thought the shmoopie-ness between me and Amy was bad before, it's gotten even worse now.

Generally, when you travel with a woman, it tends to magnify all aspects of your relationship. That can work both ways: you can find yourself increasingly irritated with her faults, or you can find yourself more and more enamored with her personality. With Amy, it turned out to be the latter... and that was a nice surprise.

Amy and I flew up to New York on Friday.

The flight was delayed because of the rain in New York, but I was gratified to find Amy to be a patient and easy-going traveler. She had even agreed to go to the airport insanely early with me, so the fact that she tolerated the delay so well was a HUGE relief.

But anyway, Friday we got in later than we wanted, and the weather was yucky, so we didn't get to do much. We did go out to the über-trendy Spice Market restaurant in the evening, and we had a great dinner. But after a long day of traveling and eating and drinking, Amy was ready to sleep.

Saturday during the day, I didn't plan things very well, and we ended up getting a late start and not getting to do very much. Except, I did get some shopping in, and I got some shoes. Blue suede shoes, no less. I'm very pleased with them:

We had Crouching Hamster's birthday party in the evening, which was really fun. CH tends to have a lot of guy friends and they usually dominate her parties, but in this case there were lots of women there. To Amy's relief (and my secret delight), the women were mostly lesbians. Everyone was just terribly, terribly funny, and we all had a great time.

On Sunday, Amy and I did some touristy stuff, including a trip to the Statue of Liberty.

We rode the ferry over, we strolled around the island, and we took pictures... and to me, it felt for all the world like we were on a honeymoon. That is to say, it felt like what I would imagine a honeymoon would be like. No doubt, we made everyone around us sick with our cooing and cuddling, but we didn't care.

The weekend was over entirely too quickly. The toughest thing was that I only had a few short days, and there wasn't nearly enough time to do everything I wanted. I would have liked to have spent more time hanging out with Crouching Hamster, and I would have liked to have shown Amy more of the city, and I would have liked to have seen some shows... alas. I guess there'll be time for more of that in the future.

To Crouching Hamster, thanks for a lovely time, and I'm so glad I was able to see you. To Amy, I'm so happy you came with me on the trip... and you know what I mean by that.
