Anna's Birthday
Tuesday, 2006 March 28 - 9:01 am
Hangin' wit' my homies.

Last weekend we celebrated Anna's birthday at her house. As I sat surrounded by the über-cool, the "hipsterati" of Raleigh, I thought to myself: ten years ago, when I was a geeky engineer working at Nortel, I never figured on being associated with such beautiful people. But here I am. I still occasionally get a vague sense of "do I really belong here?" I suppose everyone feels that way sometimes.

Amy and I put together a couple of things for Anna. We made a gift box of mini-bottles of booze, along with a book called Alcoholica Esoterica. And because she lives in an, um, "urban" part of town, we got her a book called Hold My Gold: A White Girl's Guide to the Hip-Hop World, plus a home-made bling kit. The result was this:

During the party, it seemed like everyone knew about my engagement to Amy, and they all came up to congratulate us. I felt a little bad for taking some of the spotlight off of Anna, but still, it was kind of cool to get that attention. Heloisa, as if we didn't already have enough reasons to adore her, gave me and Amy a card that perfectly sums up our relationship:

As for the rest of the party, there was drinking, there was dancing, there was even some table-dancing:

I somehow managed to not capture photos of the masses of people that paraded in and out of the party, but trust me, they were there and they were beautiful. At some point, if Anna sends me the pictures that she took, I might post some of those as well.

Anyway, a good time was had by all. Happy birthday, Anna!

If that first picture is in Anna's bedroom, we have the same comforter. You're welcome for this profound contribution.

hey Ken, I just stopped to see what you two have been up to, and saw this page! So cute! Though I have to disagree you don't look like you belong in that party with all the beautiful people.
You looked so hip that night!
But anyway...I think all these "ubercool" people in downtown Raleigh think too highly of themselves!! This town has a lot of growing up to do!!
