Night Out
Monday, 2006 December 11 - 8:27 am
On the town Saturday night at Mosaic Wine Lounge and Club Mosquito.

Amy and I don't get out as much as we'd like... what with the wedding preparations and the house work and all, sometimes we just don't feel up to it.

Lately, though, we've been making a conscious effort to try to get out more, and with Amy's friend Missy in town on Saturday, we had a good excuse. After dinner at Porter's Tavern, we went to Mosaic, and then we went to Mosquito. Mosaic and Mosquito are arguably two of the hippest nightclubs in Raleigh, with snazzy contemporary decor and a cozy lounge-like setting. Here's a blurry shot of Mosquito's interior... which is appropriate, because after a few hours of drinking there, this is what your vision will be like:

Both clubs play dance music with a world-music flavor, and both attract a diverse and well-dressed crowd. (Well, except for the one guy at Mosquito wearing a Carolina Panthers sweatshirt and matching sweatpants. Dude... come on.)

Unfortunately, I can see it's just a matter of time before their popularity dooms them to becoming meet-market hellholes (*cough* Sullivan's *cough*). But at least now there are options for going dancing other than The Office, that dreaded pit of posers and wannabes.

The best time for going to these clubs is on an off-night, when the atmosphere is more lounge and the crowd is quieter. On nights like that, you might even feel like you're in a club in a real city. Could it be that Raleigh is starting to grow up a bit? We can only hope.

Wow. Is it lame that I don't have a homepage but I have a myspace page? Anyhow, it was good to see you on Saturday; albeit brief. Hope your dinner was as good as ours was. I'm excited to see you Thursday. It feels like it's been too long. . .perhaps b/c it has. . . . ;o) Glad you'll be getting out more. Figures it's right around the time that I'm trying to stay in more. Oh well. We'll find a happy median at some point.
