A Republican senator has raised the specter of impeachment over the Bush administration's secret surveillance tactics. Finally! Someone is talking about impeachment. And it's Arlen Specter, no less, the Republican chairman of the Senate judiciary committee. Yeah, sure, he was speaking theoretically, and it was an off-the-cuff remark. But it's about time people starting using the I-word for a situation where the President may have BROKEN THE LAW. (As opposed to, say, a situation where the President gets a BJ in the Oval Office.) It's doubtful anything will come of this, but I'd be happy even if there was a buzz about it. It's the kind of issue that needs to be kept in the forefront, because it goes to the very heart of what's wrong with Bush's presidency. We can't go on having an emperor that rules by decree. We have to remember that even though we're "at war", this is still the United States of America... and "freedom" and "rights" are more than just words we use to justify military action. The only other question is, how long before the Republican party kicks Specter out? |

Lying to a court is, in fact, also against the law. Not that I don't love Clinton, but it just is. |
