Society: Top Ten Worst Things To Say To Someone You've Offended | Sunday, 2004 April 25 - 5:54 pm |
I hear racist, sexist, homophobic, and otherwise negative comments all the time. I wonder: when people are offensive, is it that they don't realize it, or is it just that they don't care? Hmm. Either way, I hate it when people make it worse by trying to justify their offensiveness. Top ten worst things to say to someone you've offended: 10. "It's not about you personally, so you shouldn't be offended." 9. "It's not offensive if it's the truth." 8. "You only get offended when you're wrong." 7. "If you were really my friend, you'd wouldn't get offended by that." 6. "You just don't understand." 5. "People say that kind of stuff to me all the time, and I don't get offended." 4. "I'm just making conversation." 3. "It's just my opinion." 2. "It's just a joke." 1. "Lighten up; you're too sensitive." (Number one best thing to say to someone you've offended: "I'm sorry.") |
